If you haven't seen Akikos beautiful blog Style Imported, then you are in for a lovely new read! I've been following Akiko for awhile now, and thought I'd share her blog with you all today. On her blog, she shares her beautiful illustrations, outfit posts, and an occasional recipe...yum! Not to mention, she has a lovely instagram account!

When did you decide that graphic design was the career for you?
I've always been involved in graphic design ever since I decided to attend Art College in Japan years ago. After graduating school, I came to the USA to study both English and illustrations. I started my career as an assistant buyer in a fashion related company. Then I was lucky enough to start to design T-shirts for the company a few years later. So I don't remember when I decided exactly, but it happened along the way.

Could you tell us a little bit about your illustrating process?
I draw outlines on paper with my pen or ink, and color with watercolor in a separate paper. Then I scan both and combine and finish in Photoshop.

Do you have a favorite illustration that you have drawn thus far?
I like the one I made for Planet Blue for their promotion ad. It's the one on the top page of my website right now.

The recipes on your blog look so delicious & cute! Do you have a favorite recipe to cook or bake?
My favorite is one of the easiest one! I really love the Kale Chips. It's our most frequent recipe so far.

How has growing up in Japan influenced your illustrations? Has California had an effect on your illustrations as well?
I think not only both places but the places I traveled all influenced my work. However, I believe the eye for detail developed growing up in Japan. They're great art works and even foods with such tiny details.

What are some of the things you miss most about Japan?
My family and friends the most, but besides that I miss the crazy crowded city and subway lines which I hated when I lived there. Oh and the food section in a department store (usually located in the basement). It's super crowded, but you can find the yummiest food and desert!

Thank you so much Akiko for answering some questions and sharing your lovely art with all of us!
