pattern review: alexandria peg trousers

Wednesday, February 15, 2017

Pants are hard. Pants are scary. Will they fit? Will they rip while I'm wearing them? Only time will tell. I will say that I am in love with my Alexandria Peg Trousers! Paired them with an Express sweater, Everlane loafers, & my A.P.C. Half Moon bag.

First order of business in tackling this project was fabric selection. I turned to trusty Mood Fabrics and ordered this beautiful black polyester crepe by Rag & Bone. Yeah you read that right. I made my own pants out of Rag & Bone produced fabric. Isn't sewing the best? It showed up on my doorstep just as described and is as lovely as I hoped it would be.

I cut these pants based off of the finished garment size which was very helpful. Had I gone off of my actual hip measurement, it would have dropped me into a size that would have been way too large. Very happy that they fit!!

I generally followed the directions except for how they joined the crotch seam. The pattern calls for dropping one leg inside another. I must have been having a moment because when I tried this method I ended up with backward pockets. I'm not sure what was going on but I just joined the seam right sides together, no tricks.

This pattern sews up very quickly, I think the longest part was joining the waistband. This was difficult in this fabric because I couldn't get the fabric to press at all! I suppose that was my only qualm with the fabric, but it felt more like a personal issue.

  3. Cute trousers!

RE: Pressing your fabric - polyester doesn't like to crease. A clapper will help, though.

I used some Rag & Bone French terry from Mood for a Toaster 2 sweater, and it was the yummiest fabric. Must keep my eyes peeled for more R&B stuff!
