I've had this Alder pattern by Grainline Studios sitting in my stash for quite some time. I originally blogged about this sewing pattern over a year ago! How does that even happen? I knew that this dress was an advanced pattern which means a lot of detail and I suppose I put it off for that reason. But trying to come up with interesting DIYs and original patterns can burn you out. So, I thought it would be a perfect time to give this pattern a go.

We all know what's most annoying about patterns. Confusing jargon. You want me to do what with this seam? How am I suppose to decode this secret message? Grainline's patterns are the complete opposite. Instead, Jen's patterns are treasure maps to creating a solid piece in your wardrobe. This is by far the most well made dress I've created, all thanks to her clear pattern instructions. Not only are the pattern instructions clear, on her blog she offers a step-by-step blog series to guide you to success. How awesome is that!!

The Adler dress is meant to have a loose fit around the body but I think it looks really cute with a belt around it. I considered adding belt loops but I think I like the option to go without a belt. This should be perfect for the upcoming school semester. Easy going yet chic at the same time.

  3. This is the first time I am interested in making this dress - it's so shapeless usually, but yours is gorgeous.

  6. Absolutely gorgeous. I had this saved for time and to scroll back to ensure it was DIY. Looks like a magazine shot. Would you mind me sharing this on SSB in the future? I link to your post and let you know when shared. Sassy Sewing Bees - https://www.facebook.com/SassySewingBees
