Self Sewn Alder dress (pattern by Grainline Studios), ASOS belt, Michael Kors Watch, Target shoes (similar), Stephanie Kantis earrings via Neiman Marcus
I've had this Alder pattern by Grainline Studios sitting in my stash for quite some time. I originally blogged about this sewing pattern over a year ago! How does that even happen? I knew that this dress was an advanced pattern which means a lot of detail and I suppose I put it off for that reason. But trying to come up with interesting DIYs and original patterns can burn you out. So, I thought it would be a perfect time to give this pattern a go.
We all know what's most annoying about patterns. Confusing jargon. You want me to do what with this seam? How am I suppose to decode this secret message? Grainline's patterns are the complete opposite. Instead, Jen's patterns are treasure maps to creating a solid piece in your wardrobe. This is by far the most well made dress I've created, all thanks to her clear pattern instructions. Not only are the pattern instructions clear, on her blog she offers a step-by-step blog series to guide you to success. How awesome is that!!
The Adler dress is meant to have a loose fit around the body but I think it looks really cute with a belt around it. I considered adding belt loops but I think I like the option to go without a belt. This should be perfect for the upcoming school semester. Easy going yet chic at the same time.
