what i made | burdastyle bomber jacket

Now that I have completed this bomber jacket, I'm tempted to make one in every color. I need a pink, olive green, black, black with patches, another pink, etc. You get the point. I picked up this silk from Joanns and I really like it. Wasn't too expensive and has some weight to it which was really important for this jacket. I've never sewn raglan sleeves before. I ran into an issue with the sleeves turning a bit inwards at the bottom, so I keep the sleeves up so that you can't tell.

For the ribbing I stopped by Beverly's in Clairemont which is pretty cute. There wasn't a lot of ribbing selections at either store. I think next time around I would like a thicker ribbing that has more stretch. I had to improvise for the bottom band because the fabric I got didn't stretch enough for the length. I had just enough fabric to cut an extra piece. Whewww!

This pattern is actually a BurdaEasy pattern, which I have never tried before. It included photos explaining each step, so I feel I can safely recommend trying a BurdaEasy pattern if that is what you are looking for! Perfect for a beginner.

Last week I attended the Trend Preview at Neiman Marcus, which is always a great time. Who doesn't like looking at beautiful clothes? I love seeing pieces up close and looking at the details that go into each garment. The trends ranged from bare shoulders to confident reds, denim everything and the redefined blazer. But I couldn't get this bomber jacket out of my head. Beautiful embellishments!! I remember the first time I wanted a bomber jacket, when I saw Utada in this jacket. On a road trip to Montana, we stopped in Las Vegas where I found said jacket. I was a child and mom was right, satin gets ruined too easily. Both bombers were/are out of my price range. So I think it's time to make one.

I'm thinking I'm going to try this BurdaStyle pattern, I might even make a muslin first. I think the key here is what I embellish it with. To be honest, I'm almost tempted to go full varsity and put a big "J" on it ha! The other half of me wants to go full Grease and make a pink one. Either way, satin seems to be the way to go.

Growing up in Southern California, Billabong is a brand I am more than familiar with. I remember one of the first hats I owned was a pink hat that I just had to have. That hat, of course, was made by Billabong.

So when they asked if I would be interested in collaborating, I was instantly in love with this sweater. Who doesn't love a comfy knit?? I got a size medium for anyone wondering. While I love to sew, knitting can be a little too time consuming for me. I also have a hard time finding a soft yarn in a color that I like. This sweater does come in a darker color, but I figured since we will be turning to spring time that this icy gray is perfect. The weather this weekend has been absolutely perfect. We ventured down to Shelter Island to snap some photos, plenty of birds and seals to be seen. I haven't worn shorts in forever so I'm glad that this sweater made that happen. Thank you to Billabong for this sweater!
