I've been dying to start my journey into the perfect fitting skinny jeans. Naturally, I jumped at the chance when BurdaStyle offered me to take one of their online courses that details how to sew this jean pattern. More thoughts below the next photo!

Let me just tell you that these photos are very deceiving. The jeans, as you may have guessed by the oversized sweater, do not fit. I'm actually not that sad because I think I know what I need to fix for my next version. First, I'm going to put 5 belt loops instead of 3. I'm also going to make them more skinny in the leg. In the BurdaStyle Academy video, Meg shows you how to combine pattern sizes. I think I need to do this for the waistband portion because that is the part that doesn't fit.

The video says to find fabric that has 10% spandex and 90% cotton. I couldn't find that in local stores or online, so I just went to the fabric store and got the most spandex content that I could. I forgot to snap a photo of the content of this fabric, but I don't think it was over 4% spandex & it was some blend other than cotton as well.

While I'm on this thought, I found it interesting that you are suppose to stretch the waistband to fit the top of the jeans. The waistband is also interfaced, so I'm wondering how I'm suppose to stretch an interfaced piece of fabric? I might have to reach out to Meg for this question, because I couldn't get it to work and had to draft a new waistband piece.

Other than that this pattern & the video are great to have if you are new to making pants. I found the most confusing part of making jeans is reading how the fly is constructed, and Meg walks you right through that part. Every step is clearly shown and she has a lot of great tips! I will be consulting this video again for the next pair. I can't wait to make my own perfect pair of jeans. This is only the beginning!
